It is not too difficult to use and care for your synthetic hair wig. With these simple guidelines, you will be able to make your wig last longer. Here is our How-To guide for your synthetic hair wig.

1. How To Wear Your Synthetic Hair Wig

You can put on your wig in 4 easy steps.

Step 1: Take your wig out of the box and grip it properly from underneath at the cap.

Step 2: Use the specially designed wig comb provided in your wig kit to make a clear parting for your wig. Use the back of the comb to remove any stray strands of hair from the straight parting and then comb with gentle strokes from about 2 cms away from the root to the tip. In case it is a no parting wig, do not try to create a parting!

Step 3: Next, take the wide-toothed comb and gently brush the rest of the wig to detangle it. Slightly shake the wig in your hand so that the natural bounce is recreated in the synthetic wig. Your wig is ready to be worn!

Step 4: Align your wig to your natural hairline and place its cap on your head. Comb through it gently for a final look.

2. How To Secure Your Synthetic Hair Wig

Papillon Chemocare wigs come in two standardised sizes. To read more about them, visit our post on 7 Things That Set Papillon Chemocare Wigs Apart.

Your wig has an adjustable elastic hook and the wig kit comes with wig clips. Both of these can be used for securing your wig to your head

If you’ve lost all your hair, you can secure your wig using the adjustable elastic hook. You can get a comfortable grip for the wig by tightening or loosening the elastic hook. There is a video on the CD in your wig kit so you can understand better how to use it.

Your hair starts to grow back towards the end of the chemo sessions but you might feel the need to wear the wig till it grows back to a comfortable shoulder length or so. If you feel your wig slipping, then don’t worry. The wig clips in your wig kit will help you secure your wig. They can be attached to the front of the wig on your natural hair once it is about 2 inches long.

2. How To Wash Your Synthetic Hair Wig

The first thing you need to know about wig care is that you absolutely need to use the right products that are formulated for wig care. An investment in the right products will ensure that you don’t need to invest in another wig altogether. We recommend you to use any shampoos that are meant for dry and damaged hair and any leave in conditioners available in the market.

Once you have the right products, all you need is some gentle care to wash your wig at home like an expert. Here are 7 easy steps to do it. We also have a video tutorial on washing your wig here which you can watch and know how to wash your wig correctly.

Step 1: Detangle your wig with slow strokes of a wide-toothed comb at the end to prevent matting during washing. Do not tug at the roots or it will cause the strands to fall off.

Step 2: Rinse the wig from roots to end by running it under a gentle stream of water.

Step 3: Take some shampoo and rub it between your palms to loosen it. Apply it evenly through the hair. Use circular motions for the cap. Rinse from roots to tips like in step 2.

Step 4: Squeeze, excess water from the hair ends. If you wring, you’ll end up with strands in your hands that you do not want!

Step 5: Apply a leave-in conditioner from mid-shaft to the end. Do NOT apply conditioner on the roots.

Step 6: Always only air dry synthetic wigs. Do NOT use a blowdryer to dry it. Use the comb that comes with your wig kit to set the parting if needed.

Step 7: Use a leave-in serum on the tips of your human hair wig to restore its lustre.

4. How To Style Your Synthetic Hair Wig

Your synthetic hair wig cannot be styled like natural hair or human hair wigs. Here are some important DON’Ts of styling processes and synthetic wigs that you need to know. These will save your wig from any damage and increase its life.

DON’T get chemical treatments for your wig like straightening, chemical bonding, colouring etc. Synthetic hair wigs are not designed for these treatments.

DON’T use heating tools like straightening irons or curling rods. It is not possible to change the wave of synthetic wigs unless they are processed in the factory.

DON’T use any hair oil on your synthetic hair wig. You can add to its shine by using leave-in serums that are easily available in the market.

DON’T use fine combs to style your wig. Use the comb that comes with your wig kit to set the parting and a wide-toothed comb for detangling.

DON’T comb your wig in the crown area as it will lead to an unnecessary flat look and strands will start falling out of your wig.

DON’T handle medium-length and long-length wigs too much as they can get matted.

5. How To Store Your Human Hair Wig

Whenever you take off your wig, it needs to be stored properly to avoid tangling and damage. NEVER store a wig when it is wet. Store a dry wig in a large box and not a small one to prevent tangling of the strands. A good option is to use the box your wig comes in to store it.
